Clipping a Griffons wings.....

One of us will be getting the boot due to a certain incident in Yang Shuo. He is already being punished and serving his time doing CIP in the school. I understand that since he is a councillor, people tend to see that they must punish and reprimand him even more than an average SRJCian. However, he should not be suspended from council because of this single event. No one should lose their family to a single event, especially to one as small and minor as this, and without a chance to redeem himself.

I understand that councillors have to be the role-models to all SRJCians. We have to be the PERFECT example to all. Our records to be flawless and speckless. So, if people see us doing something wrong or unexpected of a councillor, they would most likely be disappointed of us because we have the rank. We try to hide our imperfections in front of others. But believe it or not, it is quite impossible to do so. We are human after all! So what if Wei Xiang was caught with his imperfection, he stood up to take the sentence given to him for it was a chance to redeem himself for commiting the crime. That is the way of the council, the way of morals...if we make mistakes, we apologize and try to redeem ourselves, improving ourselves along the way and working towards being the PERFECT example, the perfect role-model.

I am aware that the Council's reputation will be compromised if one of our members were to be caught doing the wrong thing as each of us are representatives of the organization and nothing is done to the party at fault. But something is already being done, and that councillor is already doing his time. He should not be burdened with a another more demeaning sentence of suspension from council. Cause he is a valuable member of the council! He has contributed quite a lot to the council and sacrificed quite a lot of his time to the organization. He has made the council what it is today, as much as any councillor has and perhaps even more. And since he serves in council, He has also serves the college in any way he can. If he is suspended from the council, his ability to help the college and shape it into the what can only be currently imagined will be stripped away. Taking that ability from someone who wishes to bring the college to new, greater heights isn't going to help anyone, is it?

So, I hope that the decision to suspend him from council is to be reconsidered. I think we should be there to influence the decision. To support our fellow councillor, our fellow 21st Griffonieee.

Rex, signing off.
Thank You.
